Be The Business: UK Productivity Initiative

There is a general acknowledgement that, after Brexit, companies will need to work harder to compete. According to the FT yesterday, businesses will need to be ‘match fit’ and to address the UK’s ongoing productivity issues.

It’s against this backdrop that a number of well-known businesses have come together to launch a new initiative, called Be The Business. It will aim to help companies by promoting best practice and by offering practical tools that will help companies to improve performance. The productivity gap that exists between the large majority of poorly performing UK companies and their leading international competitors is too great; Be The Business has been specifically created to close the UK’s productivity gap.

Be The Business

Be The Business offers a digital platform and is backed by a number of household names, including John Lewis, BAE Systems, GSK, Rolls-Royce, Amazon, Nestle, and BT.

The platform offers advice and information, sharing best practice ideas. Companies can receive regular newsletters and also use the benchmarking tool to assess how their business stacks up against best practice and to receive a tailored, report with specific actions that will help to improve productivity.

There’s also a mentoring programme, provided by 100 executives from the participant companies, which aims to provide practical advice and guided programmes for smaller UK companies. And there will be networking and other specialist events held across the country.

Productivity for Wholesale Distribution Operations

We’ve been discussing productivity here on the Balloon blog for some months now. We recognise that – particularly for wholesale distribution companies – addressing productivity issues is critical to future prosperity.

A number of Balloon One services and products address productivity issues. All the software we endorse is aimed at helping our clients to maximise their resources and allow them to increase profits. In turn, this enables them to pay their staff better and to invest in their operations. ERP systems such as NetSuite and SAP Business One provide the functionality to boost financial performance and the HighJump WMS platform is built to drive productivity in the warehouse.

We also offer consultancy on all aspects of warehouse operations that contribute towards productivity, such as warehouse layout, process and workflow design, demand forecasting and inventory optimisation. We also offer a KPI benchmarking service that can not only measure your operation against other similar warehousing businesses, but also provide a comprehensive analysis of your business to determine which KPIs to measure and set.
